First, make sure the paper is thoroughly dry, leave overnight preferrably.
Using a weak mixture of payne's grey and raw sienna(blue/grey), a wash is applied to the whole water area. This will soften the edges and give a grey tone to the unpainted areas.
To apply this wash, use a very soft large brush, so the previous washes will not be disturbed.
The superstructure was painted next, with paynes grey and raw umber. Fine aerials and lines (ropes) were painted with a rigger brush.
Shading is added to radar dome.
The top rigging contrasts well with the light sienna sky!
The buoy is painted with Alizarin Crimson/Light red, shaded on the left side and white paper showing on right for highlight.
The buoy and reflection are finished!
The masking fluid is removed with a putty rubber.
Before removing, ensure that the paper is thoroughly dry or it may tear.
It can also be removed by rubbing with your finger.
Here, I have applied some masking fluid to preserve the rope and a small light reflection on the side of the hull.
Using our grey mix, the shadow areas are built up.
To the left, you can see the left side of hull (in shadow) and the lip, as well as the front of cabin and rear underside of hull.
The wooden parts were painted using a mixture of burnt umber and touch of alizarin crimson.
A grey mix is used for the bow's edge.
Ultramarine and payne's grey are used for the bottom of the hull, and burnt umber is added (while wet) at the rear section to dirty the waterline.
The masking fluid is removed and the rope is painted in.
The bollards and inner rails are detailed.
The windows are painted with a brown/crimson mix and a hint of curtains showing.
A mixture of ultramarine/cobalt blue used for the window's protective sheeting.
It is darkened in places with payne's grey dropped in while wet.
On the right edge and side, some paint is lifted with blotter paper to give the impression of creases in cloth.
You could leave the sheet and paint in the windows, but I thought the blue sheet gave more of a contrast in the scene.
Final thoughts, I didn't like the reflection in side of hull watermark, so I removed by painting in.
Decided to lighten the top corner of the sky. Dampened wash and lifted with tissue paper.
Signed and dated at bottom left corner. :-)
I hope you enjoyed painting this scene!
